Summary: Somadattan (Suresh Gopi), the eldest son of renowned scholar & Hindu priest Devadattan Somayajippadu (Narendra Prasad), heads an Atheist society & believes his father spreads superstition. He also blames his father for the suicide of his younger brother Chitrabanu (Jayaram). When Devadattan is called upon by the villagers to do the great ritual of "Athirathram", to bring rain to the parched village, Somadattan ridicules it & challenges his father to give up his priestly life, if it doesn't rain.
