The first ten minutes are full of potential for an exciting surreal fantasy, but that never really materializes and we're subjected to lengthy scenes of people muttering at each other about documents and wishing that they were dead, etc. I'm sure there's some clever political allegory going on here, but I couldn't stay interested enough to pick up on the meaning. I found myself ignoring the dialog after a while, and simply enjoying the black and white cinematography, which is quite good.

Close to pure surrealism. For the most part it seems to be about pining for lost love. The four guys who start sticking together seem to represent different elements of the main character's personality. And finally of course the woman they have lost seems also to be a metaphor for the nation. Or perhaps it's the other way around. All this is interesting to me, but the way the movie plays out, in seemingly random free-association, is something that doesn't seem to penetrate past my eyeballs.
