Excellent concept, a collection of short stories in movie form. It's a mixed bag with more hits than misses, and even the less appealing tales are by no means bad. A fine way to kill 2 hours, the time flies by.
Really well-made shorts about the city of love by top directors and many great actors. The individual pieces were mostly enjoyable, I'm not sure if the whole thing hung together - I think fewer longer pieces more intertwined would have been better.
Not all of these shorts work, and a few might work on their own but not as part of the whole. Even so, the majority of them not only work but are fantastic at providing snippets of romance and make a fantastic love letter to Paris.
Despite the title, there's not a lot that's French about this movie. And it's not very romantic either, as one might think. So many short stories one right after the other made it seem longer than it was, especially since I only liked 2 or 3 out of the 18 stories.
From the straight forward to the surreal, bizarre and supernatural and horror themed stories of love, this was quite an impressive group of stories the celebrated different kinds of loves in the world in Paris. The directors and actors are a plethora of who's who in the film industry which make this move of an interesting and unpredictable watch. Loved almost all the segments as I felt as if nothing was wasted in making this film. Good concept that works.
Nice collection of short love stories, some great, others not so much. Each segment is something special and being short, they are quite watchable. Other romantic movies could take this film as an example how things should be done in some cases e.g. personally I prefered segment "Quartier de la Madeleine" over any Twilight crap(same idea, changed roles - she's vampire, he's not and much better performed). If were stories somehow connected would be even better. But still it is outstanding.
"Place des fêtes", "Le Marais" and "Faubourg Saint-Denis" were awesome. Some of other shorts were sweet, I really enjoyed the scene in metro. Some, however, were boring ("Loin du 16e") or weird ("Porte de Choisy", "Quartier de la Madeleine"). Overall, I liked "New York, I love you" more.
