A strong set of short films, a surprise since these anthology-type films seem to be a bit of a mixed bag. Godard's entry left me nonplussed, the Douchet and Pollet films were clever and comic, respectively, with Rohmer, Chabrol, and especially Rouch offering the strongest entries. Rouch's film anticipates much of the aesthetic now seen most often in films by the Dardenne brothers. Each of the filmmakers make ample use of exteriors, giving the set a cohesion lacking in the recent Paris je t'aime.
