Very funny movie, with all the characters being as funny as each other without too much attention on Pegg and Frost. Direction was kind of weak and there were few laugh out loud moments, but it was extremely likeable and quite quotable. A good twist at the end too, didn't see that coming. Some of the jokes were very good though, especially the Stark Trek reenactment. A wonderful cast, I forgot that bit.

Some decent laughs here and there, mostly from nods to other sci-fi. However it generally feels overly crass for no reason. Additionally Paul, the alien, seems tremendously awesome, hip and cool despite being secluded away from society for so long. It just felt off place and I couldn't shake the feeling he was just too perfect. Certainly not Pegg/Frost's best.

Pegg/Frost meets the Superbad crew in this enjoyable comedy. It's pretty lightweight, but the cast is good and there are lots of affectionate references. Fun.

Happy Space Jesus makes the world a better place using the power of atheism. I thought it was pretty good. Obvious comparisons to ET abound within and without the film, but still, it pulled off Big Boy ET pretty well. The puppet was pretty cool too.

Just not that funny. Some of the more obscure sci-fi references were probably lost on me - the ones I got raised a smile, but they were simply spread too thin to keep me interested over 100 minutes. Also, was there really any need for that much swearing? I don't mind bad language in context, but here it sounds particularly forced and awkward.

Wasn't expecting much from this and after a slow start I feared the worst, but I ended up really enjoying it. The Frost and Pegg partnership works well again, they carry the movie and make it entertaining enough throughout. Funny cameo by Jeffrey Tambor too. Full of movie references, so many jokes may pass people by

Simon Pegg and Nick Frost are well-known by their british comedy movies, and usually they make a great team, ''Paul'' is another succesful result. The film knows that it's a simple Sci-fi /Comedy and doesn't try to be more than this, which is great. Besides the comedy part, the movies actually bring some great religion discussions. If you like Pegg/Frost movies, there's no mistake, ''Paul'' is worth the watch.

while pegg and frost have taken a major step down from their earlier efforts this does entertain quite well. rogen does a good voice job, and the writing is ok, but i long for the old days when the british humor shone through and it was pure comedic gold.

There's nothing that doesn't work here -- Frost and Pegg have written an engaging script and make a pair of entertaining leads, the nerdy injokes come thick and fast, and the production of Paul (both CGI and Rogen's voiceover) is a joy to watch. Definitely one of the best films of the year.

Fun little movie. Pegg and Frost are awesome as always, and even Seth Rogen wasn't annoying. It does seem to lack Wright's touch though. It's not Shaun of the Dead or Hot Fuzz by any means but it's a fun way to pass the time.

As a great bromance and road trip this movie was a little unexpected treat. It takes its time to get started, but once it starts it's a hell of a ride. The story is sweet, the cast is very well chosen and the writing is as always in a Frost/Pegg production clever and filled with movie references. This movie is like a plate of mass potatos, it doesn't look like much, but when it is cooked the right way with loads of love and a pinch of humor it can rival caviar and oysters any day of the week.

Worthwhile beginnings collapse beneath tired, poorly conceived cliches, inane dialogue, and just a bunch of stupid ideas. I think it's clear that Nick Frost does not belong on the writing side of things. The style of the last two parodies might have needed a change but Mottola (who I was beginning to praise with Adventureland) brings nothing to this; Edgar Wright is sorely missed.

Should we praise Mottola for such attempts to find new ways of doling out so many shopworn clichés and simpleton gags or is utter condemnation for Paul the truly appropriate response? The answer lies somewhere in between, his mediocre film -- especially disconcerting given the highs of Superbad and Adventureland -- inspiring minor moments of laughter and emotion, but mostly ruining the idea of human-alien contact in a cinematic space. We've little use for such diversions.

A charming tribute to sci-fi; yes, the narrative is conventional, but I think that was intentional, skewering popular culture while still admiring it. Unlike a lot of comedies, there is a sense of love for this material, helped by the considerate treatment of all the characters in the film, which makes it better and means the very crude jokes are actually funny. The cast themselves help the film greatly as well, especially Simon Pegg and Nick Frost and their (clearly real life) bromance.
