Summary: To Let follows the story of Clara and Mario, a young couple expecting their first child and looking for a more suitable - but cheap - flat to move into. After receiving a flyer through the post, they head to the outskirts to look at a promising sounding appartment. Despite their reservations - the area is a dump, the appartment block squalid and in need of serious renovation - they agree to be shown around by the persistent letting agent. Unfortunately, things take an ugly turn... (http://europeanfilmreview.co.uk)
Horror movies as unnerving as To Let are extremely rare. It is a formidable production. The directing (by Jaume Balagueró of [rec] fame), cinematography, acting, set design, effects and music are all masterful and highly effective in creating dread. It is peppered with a lot of the usual tropes for jump scares, characters unwisely being left for dead, and so on, but the script isn't completely out there as horrors often are, and everything is so well made that you have to let these things pass.
A very fast paced and intense movie. As soon as the couple got to the building is when things started to happen, and it would happen so fast as the shocks just keep on coming. At times it is rather predictable, but that doesn't take away from any of the enjoyment from this movie. The cast is pretty small, but the cast was excellent. The building also had a creepy atmosphere to it which really was uncomfortable. The movie is not long, and the fast pacing of the story make this easy to watch.
A very original story with some pretty amazing acting going on... I recommend this to anyone who likes good horror movies. It truly lives up to the title of the series: Films to Keep You Awake. It will.
