Extremely well-done dance film and obituary. The very impressive and imaginative use of 3D really does enhance the viewer's sense of the corporeality of dance, and how visceral Bausch's choreography is, and in general makes it seem not only that this movie establishes new ground for the nexus of cinema and dance, but also suggests how much more can still be done in this field. Some remarkable choreography.

Dull. Watered down cirque-du-soleil with lack lustre stage design and half the talent.

There is some very powerful cinematography in this film that complements the intriguing choreography of Pina Bausch. I feel that Wenders' indecisiveness on whether to make this a pure documentation of Bausch's dances or to makes this a retrospective of her work failed the picture, because the lack of information here did a disservice to the aimless format as a whole. Regardless, this film is absolutely stunning and all of the art direction is breathtaking.

I don't remember being this bored for a long time. Of course I know next to nothing about modern dance, but watching middle-aged ladies roll in the mud of jump around the chairs ain't my type of entertainment. As for this being art, yea, whatever, but all that deep and poetic bullshit these people were telling got on my nerves.

A glance toward the outcomes of the spiritual maturation of some dancers . A maturation that was inspected and planned by Bauche herself. The sight is more than sad, and it has nothing to do with the fact the whole movie is some kind of an actual-eternal funeral.

I enjoyed it but found it really uneven, though it's probably more accurate to say my appreciation for dance is really uneven. There are scenes that are absolutely stunning, others I really dislike, and others I'm just indifferent too. For the most part, though, I enjoyed what was there, especially in the middle of the film. It helps that it's very well shot and staged, so even when I wasn't enjoying the particular dance I could appreciate the film on a technical level.

I knew nothing about Pina Bausch going into this... Now I know EVERYTHING about Pina Bausch! IN MY SOUL! ...There are numerous bits of choreography still replaying in my minds eye, as I write this! I came to care about each of her dancers; People I would love to spend an evening with!

Artistically creative and intelligently made documentary. Wender beautifully captures Pina's influence on her dancer's work, at times reminiscent of a funeral speech.

How wonderful for a 3D sceptic such as myself to finally watch a film in which the 3D effect really added something to the experience.

Wim Wenders films people writhing, falling down and making anguished faces in front of pretty backdrops. It's worth noting Pina's admirably subtle use of 3D technology, although it still remains unessential to the viewing experience. The film is bookended by a couple of strong pieces involving visceral sight and sound; everything in between is a muddle of eulogy and performance.

After you watch this movie, you'll know as an individual how impressive Pina Bausch is. Little talks of the people who worked with her show how important, how gracious she is. Beside that, every scene, every choreography unites with the previous one perfectly. Wenders show again like he does in the Salt of the Eart how skillful he is when it comes to tell a story about a great artist.

I know absolutely nothing about modern dance, but I still thought I would have more fun watching this. I only wish Wenders would have done this film in a more narratively informative way. Although there is plenty of amazing choreography it felt fairly disconnected to the film, as Wenders cut right in the middle of a scene, and cuts back to it a little later. To me this only distracts the dynamics and momentum of the many dance scenes.

It's amazing! The one and only movie I have ever seen which makes sense to be a 3D movie! Wim Wenders gets all the beauty of pinas plays on cinema screen. Great!

Not a work of great art, but about great art, inspired by stunning performances. Wim seems more interested in picturing the acts as if he were a spectator: he takes some distance, barely moves the camera and tries to to view, smell and touch every movement. It might be more resonant to fans and artists, and less interesting to cinephiles, though.

"By virtue of its subject alone, enthusiasts of modern dance will devour Pina. If it was in a bottle, they'd drink every drop; if it was in a squeeze-tube, they would rub it on their skin." - Jaime N. Christley

I've never seen anything quite like Pina. It may not work strictly speaking from a documentary, or retrospective, point of view, but the dancing is monumental, sexy, and often inspiring.

Visually stimulating, and poignant from the documentary point of view. All the dancers in the company were perfect for the vision Pina had, and performed immaculately. Great contemporary dance film for anyone.

The best use of 3D I've ever seen, and all in all a beautiful presentation of a (for me) obscure art form. Unfortunately it's an art form I -putting it mildly- am having difficulties relating to, and given no help from the film itself, the many dance cycles on display start to get dull and repetitive. But definitely a more engaging way to experience the particular dance form, than being forced to watch hours of it in the theatre.

Judging purely on having watched this, Pina Bausch's work is clearly amazing and I really, really want to see it live (especially Cafe Müller and The Rite of Spring!). The film itself though is rather unsatisfying as Wenders keeps interrupting the dances: it's Bausch's art that is the attraction here, not Wenders's.

Be warned that this is a plotless documentary about dance. I found the first 3 dances interesting, but I'm so much of a newcomer that it couldn't sustain my interest for the entire 100 minutes. There is this though: some of us can't see 3D in movies. If one eye is significantly stronger than the other, even if glasses completely correct for this, your brain knows to heavily rely on the naturally strong eye. The effect of this is that 3D movies look the same to me with or without the glasses.

I haven't yet figured out what this peculiar dance-related artform does to me or how to fully absorb it, but 'Pina' is - no matter what - one of the most visually striking and overall intriguing movies in years. Months after the first viewing it still hasn't left my mind, and I doubt it will.

Wim Wenders' documentary takes an usual approach to its subject, German choreographer Pina Bausch; she died shortly before filming began, and some archival footage aside, we don't see her--but we see her work. Her troupe performs four of her pieces, and they are striking; thrilling movements, imaginative settings, and fine use of music. We also see some pieces done around the troupe's base town of Wuppertal; they are no less imaginative. Lovely cinematography and imagery; mild lack of depth.

It has lots of dead moments. And odd, ugly liveliness that makes it worth watching. Also, it's the first time I actually got to watch Bausch's choreography, and she's interesting.

A 3D documentary, hmm.. I hate 3D, but this seems to be very interesting. And it's Germany's official work, that counts for something. My only issue is that I wanted to know more about Pina's life, but this would have probably influenced me before seeing this film.

A showcase for Pina Bausch's brand of postmodern highly emotional dance performances, with insights provided by her dancers scattered throughout. The result rather than provide a study on her art is more likely to leave one wanting to experience the dances without so much interruptions.

The beautiful thing about a dancer, is watching their agony mold into a perpetual form of art. Pina's loneliness is so beautifully and emotionally painted, through her movements, and the dancers who fondly look up to her. Wim Wenders further heightens the beauty of choreography in a wonderful tribute to Pina Bausch. I recommend.

Sadly didn't see it in 3D. As for the rest, not sure how much of it is to the filmmaker's credit and how much to the dancers', but there's a lot of beautiful dance scenes.

Pina estreava há 10 anos no Festival de Alès na França. Isso aqui é um desbunde, provavelmente eu teria dado 5 estrelas se tivesse visto no cinema em 3D, a dança é a mais bela das formas de arte. BlurayRip no MakingOff.
