I guess they ran out of good ideas. I mean, the piranha in this one are genetically spliced with like 3 other types of fish, so they can survive on land and fly. Yes, they fly. If gene splicing was so easy, the world would be a much stranger place. Oh, I almost forgot: Lance Henriksen is awesome. always. period.

Brazil-shot in-name-only job. Super-bloody, it shows few flashes of the sort of talent Cameron would later display in _The Terminator_ and _Aliens_ but can be dopey fun if you catch it in the right mood.

It's quite entertaining, I mean, come on: flying piranhas that launch themselves through a window? Hide in bodies? Make the sound as if helicopters fly under water? How can you not laugh at that?!

Piranha II is utter shit, but it's funny shit; piranhas that look like the singing bass except with wings, flapping around the caribbean and munching on people out of pure evilness. Fair amount of nudity, even worse special effects, absolutely zero suspense, but hey; at least it's better than Titanic.

It's not even funny-bad...

Amazingly enough, I felt like this movie was only half bad. The writing is atrocious; at the same time, you can see right away what a difference a good director makes. The cinematography is leagues better than most B movies, and the acting, at least most of the time, is also noticeably better. ...And then you have the winged rubber fish "flying" around and biting people's necks, and the terrible continuity. I had a good time laughing at it with friends, anyway.

I LOVE Leonard Maltin's review where he said "you'd have to be PSYCHIC to spot any talent in director Cameron". This is pretty bad though, and the reviews he got for this were part of the inspiration for The terminator

bizarre, and corny but also kind of amusing..

Honestly I don't really think James Cameron had much to do with this picture, but he's listed as the director regardless. This film is hilariously terrible in almost every single way, complete with bad FX, acting that can't even really be tagged with the word, and a plot that I don't even remember. But I know it was weak. In the hands of someone who can do camp really well (Roger Corman comes to mind) this would have been a decent picture. As such its worthy of being featured on MSTK.
