The first misfire of the Disney Renaissance. Tries to strike a balance between historical accuracy and straight-up fairy tale, but fails at both, turning the narrative into flavorless PC mush. At least the animation's pretty.

(2014-15 Disneython #27:) It feels overall like a step down from the last few terrific movies (and the Disney series as a whole). Only a couple songs are memorable at all, the whole thing is quite generic and predictable, and Governor Ratcliffe may be the poorest of all Disney villains. And all that is putting aside the massive, borderline-hilarious dump it takes on American history.

Not as bad as people here seem to make it out to be, but it's certainly not Disney at it's best. The characters aren't memorable at all, the story is contrived, unlikely, unbelievable, and on top of that not really interesting. Nor does the end offer a proper conclusion. However, the visuals, the music, the atmosphere are all pretty great and kept at least me interested for most of the film. Enjoyable at least.

Good story, good music, good humor. It's a good film, but it doesn't have what it takes to be on par with many of Disney's other films from the 90's like Aladdin, Beauty and the Beast, Lion King, and Toy Story. Pocahontas is not hard to forget about even if it kinda deserves to be remembered. Meh!

Everything that's wrong with Disney is on display here. Whatever charm it had in days of yore is nowhere to be found, only the clichés, the childish songs and the daft pandering to the lowest common denominator.

I am no Disney historian, but this certainly feels like one of the lesser entries in their illustrious cannon. Although totally watchable, the animation and visuals are nice with a decent song or two, but ultimately a lot of it feels processed and generic. However, as an amateur historian, the movie is severely lacking. The Anunnaki came to mine the Earth for the gold, true, but in spaceships, not a boat. I don't know what this movie was smoking in its peace pipe, but their history is way off.

This film lacks the magic that some of the more well known Disney classics never fail to delivers, the characters are quite flat and the film is full of clichés. On the other hand, "Colors of the Wind" is definitely one of Disney's most memorable and well crafted songs.

Dishonest and weak-willed, Pocahontas also features the single worst lyric in modern Disney history: "They're not like you and me, which means they must be evil!" As Wendy Darling would say, "Bitch, please."

Overall it's a pretty forgettable entry---can you even remember the villain? Pretty animation and good songs, like other Disney films. Talking tree was dumb. They also had to have too many animals to fill in the runtime. I'll leave it to others to overanalyze the movie. Fav scene: colors of the wind.

Probably one of the less liked Disney movies, at least from its era. I always found Pocahontas to be a bore when I was young. Looking at it now, I think the problem isn't that it's bad, but rather that it's forgettable. And it doesn't help that the two main leads are kind of bland. But the music and animation are nice, and there are parts of the story that are admirable.

I don't even care how good the film is on it's own merits, I hate this blatant misconception of the Pocahontas myth. Oh, and also, Disney movies have sucked since Lion King, with few exceptions.

While some might see it as historically inaccurate (which it is) and deeply offensive, Pocahontas has more to say than many realize, especially in a current cultural context. It was, unfortunately, ahead of its time in its dealing with xenophobia, otherism, and genocide and calls out all sides who see others as inferior. There is a definite step down in the quality of filmmaking from previous Disney Renaissance films, but the thematic material makes Pocahontas worth revisiting.

Absolutely loved it, it was sweet cute and visually amazing. The sing alongs were magical and the bond between john and poca was real. All these idiot reviewers crying about “white man dick saves all” obviously dont get the film. Obviously it wont follow the lore 100% as the lore is absolutely disgusting and brutal. Imagine whining that a animation is pretty lmao. Disney is not realistic thats why its called Disney so stop whinging about history. Watch if you want a sweet soppy romance.

A melancholy oddity in the empowerment-lite canon of '90s Disney animation, POCAHONTAS visibly struggles with how to frame a historically-fraught encounter for a family audience. It does better than expected, but overall it comes off somewhat bland, despite the presence of perhaps the finest Disney power ballad ("Colors of the Wind") of the 20th century.

Disney puts its spin on history but maintains cultural sensitivity: several characters are voiced by Native American performers, including Chief Powhatan, spoken by American Indian activist Means, who led the 1973 siege at Wounded Knee, and Bedard as Pocahontas. Just don't tell the kids the real Pocahontas married someone else, moved to England, and died of smallpox at 21.

Utterly forgettable Disney-fare. Historically inacurate, this is a flawed film with some halfway decent music. This is part of the most recent decline of Disney Animation. Movies like Pocahontas and Hunchback are the reason why organizations like Dreamworks and Pixar became so successful.

Pocahontas has beautiful animation, and "Colors of the Wind" is a great song, but it feels as though it's missing something to make it a real classic. For one, there seems to be an over-reliance on the cute animal characters to break up the actual plot of the movie.

This wouldn't be that bad a movie except for the fact that it's "based on" a "true" story. It will confuse kids when they start learning about what really happened. Especially since many historians believe that Smith was never actually in danger. Other than those historical concerns, it does get a bit heavy-handed with its message which gets to be a bit off-putting at times.

Still incredibly racist conceptually, but I found the actual content far less off-putting than Aladdin or Mulan. ("Savages" is pretty clearly satire, guys) It also doesn't have any terrible comedy, which is a plus, but it still sticks to the Disney Formula. The best scene (by far) in the movie is the initial meeting at the waterfall -- quite, serene, beautiful, reminiscent of classic Disney. I'd have liked the rest of the film to echo Bambi and Sleeping Beauty more than the 90s schlock.

i just don't buy john smith as a viable male lead - pocahontas could do better. it also doesn't help that in the next pocahontas film, she moves to england and doesn't like john smith anymore - i find that takes credibility out of this film and makes their love not real and not an important driving force in the film. having said all this though, it's still a really fun film to watch.

Aside from being quite racist, it's a really good Disney film. You keep watching it, obviously, you see more and more of the racial undertones, but for its time and purpose, really good flick. As for the people that bitch about the historical accuracy, you can't have under-10 year olds watching white people slaughter indians, that's not an appropriate movie. Disney is shooting to tell a story of love with that as a backdrop, and for a kids movie, it works well enough.

I don't get the criticisms of historical inaccuracy on here. I mean, come on people. Anyway, Pocahontas kept alive the spirit of the Disney renaissance films; if anything it was more stylized than its predecessors. However, aside from the breathtaking animation and music, everything is really just a pass.

Her 2 tarafın savaş açması, 2 aşığı zor durumda bırakır.
