If you manage to ignore the poorly conceived dialog and just watch the film it's a pure kinetic action feast. This movie was more or less a long stunt trailer for displaying what Jackie Chan is capable of. There is some wild stuff and you realize how incredible it is especially since there was no CGI at this time. The mall scenes are probably the greatest in any action movie ever and still hold up very well today. Highly recommended to see Jackie in his prime kicking ass.

the last 15 minutes are some of the best action ever filmed, though it takes a while to get there. best use of a mall since dawn of the dead.

Too slow for the most part, but the stunts are insane! Rarely have I seen so many people falling through so much glass. And the final pole-descent... madness.

In so many ways an awful film. But this film is not about plot, dialogue or meanings. It's about stunts and fighting, and it does those things better than pretty much any film I can think of.

This is quite possibly Jackie Chan's finest hour. The stunts and action in this film are among the finest I've ever witnessed, and there's enough plot and humor backing them up to provide a well-rounded action experience.

Good fights and GREAT stunts, but the plot is the same plot that 90% of 80's cop movies had, and other elements of the film are also fairly predictable.

Everyone gets thrown through glass in this movie: Jackie, his girlfriend, the baddies, the head boss -- EVERYONE. Jackie and his stunt team are experts at delivering and selling punches, kicks, and throws; it's over-the-top but you can feel each strike, each fall, each collision as you watch. Imagination, creativity, comedy, and superb choreography make Police Story one of Jackie Chan's best. Reminds me how good action movies can be.

I pity the glass to ever appear in this movie - The end is nigh! Besides from that whole fetish level of glass destruction there are some neat stunts (scaring insurance agents, no doubt) outweighing the cheesy slapstick humor.. It also manages to embrace and poke fun at classic Police-film clichés in a charming way, but the movie ultimately feels too long even at a bare 90 minutes.. Recommended for children not yet ready to watch Woo's bloodshed, but having outgrown TMNT's pizza crave (ages 6-9)

A stellar mix of quality martial arts action with a gritty, interesting crime story, the latter which caught me off guard. Far from being non-stop Jackie fight scenes, there is a lot of time devoted to the police investigation and criminal machinations. To my surprise, it was all good, and the acting from the main villain was especially noteworthy. My lone criticism would be that while it was a cool, unique combination, by themselves, neither the martial arts nor crime parts were great.
