If this film were done today, all the planes and the water would be CGI. I'm glad this was made when it was because something would definitely be lost.

This movie does contain some beautiful imagery.

Perhaps Miyazaki's finest work to date, this is more of a grown up's story as opposed to the likes of Spirited Away and Totoro. Still it maintains the same witty sense of humor especially in its caricature of an american pilot hoping to become a film star.

Imagine Humphrey Bogart as a humanoid pig... it's a combination of romantic drama, humor and dying past. Makes you thing of Casablanca, but has much more to offer - all the details which may seem random or insignificant actually add to the meaning and there are layers to this film. My personal Miyazaki favourite.

More affectionate continental throwback from Miyazaki. But I wouldn't watch it again, unlike the similarly light "Kiki's." [dubbed]

A strange film with great psychological meaning under the seemingly simple plotline. Many of the very best bits of Hayao Miyazaki's work are shown in this film.

Great even on Miyzakis scale. The relationship between Porco and Fio remind me of the movie Léon (which was made after this one).

Nostalgia permeates this beautiful film that resides in a unique time and place charmingly similar to our own, with the barest hints of menace. There is a pleasing innocence to the plot that contrasts the protagonists darker background, and the shadows on the horizon. My only complaint is that I wanted to further explore this fascinating world and its characters, but the fleeting nature of the film is also a reflection of its setting and one of its most charming features.
