You've decided to remember Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time for later. You can see all your remembered films here.
Summary: When an evil nobleman threatens to enslave the world by obtaining the Sands of Time -- a mystical hourglass that gives him control over the flow of time -- Prince Dastan (Jake Gyllenhaal) and spunky Princess Tamina (Gemma Arterton) must join forces to stop the madman. Mike Newell directs this sweeping live-action adventure based on the popular video game.
Pretty much what you could/should expect from the Bruckheimer/Disney-label it wears; Decent fantasy rump with great visual effect and so very little else (except for the most Caucasian-looking Persians I've ever seen)
This is Pirates of the Caribbean meets The Scorpion King. The movie isn't anything that pushes new ground, where cinema is concerned, but it has the right flow to make it a mindless, fun adventure. The story is cliche and the story is predictable, but I still enjoyed it non the less. This is nothing like the video games, but it does take a neat spin of the idea of a time traveling dagger.
A very predictable plot and some nice scenes make it quite acceptable to watch when sitting in a plane, like I did. No problem catching up after a bathroom visit. But don't expect much more of it. Poor dialogues, no character developments and quite a lot historical errors and impossibilities. (For examples, see the goofs area on IMDB.)
Well, Jake Gyllenhaal is too cute to be an action hero. He's believable enough as bored thirty-something department store employee Jennifer Aniston's teenaged lover in The Good Girl. Not as much as the lead in a big-budget summer blockbuster. Other than that, it's just more hyperkinetic fast-food filmmaking in the Michael Bay tradition. I had no idea what was going on, but I won't deny feeling something visceral.
I played the video games and I tell you that it's not the movie I expect . the problem is with the scenario and the bad ending with the matter of back to the past . it was terrible .
Look, you don't go into a film like Prince of Persia and expect great depth. That's just not how it is, and if that's what you do, you need to realize that a film like this isn't going to bring you that. Instead, you get fun action sequences held together by a barely relevant plot, with characters that have no real personality other than to accomplish their main task. That's fine, but adjust expectations accordingly when considering watching this film. Once it's over, you'll forget it exists.
Gylenhaal looks like the prince we had been playing on our PC's. This movie offers a lot of fun. I think it is a must-watch fantasy/action movie of 2010.
It's not awful. The plot is ridiculous, which wouldn't be an awful thing if the crux of the movie didn't make it so any dire situation could be taken back with the push of a button. The action scenes can be cool, but are too often laced with a bunch of lame free running stuff. As a video game adaptation it's good, but there aren't many other ones that aren't blatantly awful. Ending is pretty terrible and leaves a bad taste in what is by all accounts a mediocre movie.
It took me about a week and a half to finally watch the full movie. When I finally got to the end of the movie, I wondered how many people made the obvious joke about wishing they could rewind time to prevent themselves from watching this OK movie. Reading the other reviews, I can't find many. Good job, everyone. Also, they might as well ended this with "AND IT WAS ALL A DREAM."
As someone who has never played the videogame, I wasn't disappointed in the film for maybe not living up to its source material, rather I was bored by the so-so action and the lameness of the "fantasy adventure."
Classic example of an entertaining big budget film with little to no substance. At the very least, the movie feels somewhat like Prince of Persia without the gameplay. Which, for the record, was the best thing about the franchise. The story and ending is too predictable for it's own good, as in the execution in no way makes up for it. Jake Gyllenhaal and Alfred Molina save the movie, though, making an otherwise soulless action film worth sitting through. Don't go in expecting substance, though.
I always feel drained after watching those Hollywood blockbusters. There is nothing worthwhile in this film. Unless you enjoy films like third Mummy sequel don't waste your time. There are better films out there that don't require any mind-work.
