Similar in structure to Kieslowski's earlier documentary "I Was a Solider," the director follow a few different men dealing with a sickness (tuberculosis) that is never explicitly stated. Their lives have been changed dramatically, yet no one seems to know or care. We see in this film the evidences of Kieslowski's humanism, as well as the desire to show rather than tell the audience his concerns. This is no more evident than in the final shot, which underlines the helplessness of these men.
