Summary: Punk: Attitude is a documentary on the history of punk rock in the USA and UK. The film traces the different styles of punk from their roots in 60s garage and psychedelic bands (Count Five, the Stooges) through glam-punk (New York Dolls) to the 70s New York and London scenes and into the hardcore present. Interviews with many of the musicians are edited with live clips and historical footage. (imdb)

A delightful, and not-at-all revealing, stroll down a figurative punk rock memory lane, featuring all of the usual suspects (Pistols, Iggy, MC5, etc.) playing all of the usual songs taken from all of the usual clips (plus one or two that I haven't already seen). I enjoyed it for what it was, I suppose. But what really put me off was the final 3-4 minutes as punk rock apparently "stars" with guys like Jerry Lee Lewis and Chuck Berry (I can buy that) and ends with...Fred Durst?!

A reasonable primer on punk music, but nothing terribly in-depth or revelatory. Oddly, the interviewees accuse the music press of ignoring the underground/punk scene from the early 80's until Nirvana, and yet the movie itself says almost nothing about this period. There definitely could have been a lot more ground covered, but it's fun for what it is. It got me excited to listen to stuff I haven't listened to for a long time, so that's kinda cool.
