This film is an awesome fusion of gritty cinematography and blockbuster narratives. Unfortunately, it's probably because it was marketed as a blockbuster that it was received so badly. However, the grainy aesthetics and nicely portrayed and developed characters, twinned with the rich mix of supernatural abilities establish this film as both a favourite and an inspiration.
I don't think that Push failed due to over ambition. It failed, in my mind at least, because of a poorly written script. All of its problems stem from this, from the poor dialogue, to the overwhelming number of superhuman types, as well as with the lackluster story. The story is, at its core, good enough to work with, but it gets covered up by so many confusing elements that it isn't worth your time to get a conclusion from. A conclusion, that I'd like to add, doesn't come anyway.
too many people are over critical of this movie, it's really not bad at all, especially considering it's competitor at the time "jumper". hounsou makes a much better antagonist than jackson, and if you're not a dakota fanning auto hater you have nothing to fear. also the soundtrack was pretty decent.
Someone told me this was underrated, so I rented it. Firstly, you should know that statement couldn't be further from the truth. This isn't a very good movie, and it was reviewed as such. Dakota Fanning is simply a terrible actress, and the movie is too all over the place to be enjoyable. The characters are never clearly developed, and the ending feels like it could've been pretty cool with better writing (the direction is pretty sub-par too). Just a massive disappointment.
Save the cheerleader, save the wor.... um, Every few hundred millenia, evolution leaps forw.... maybe, With great power comes great resp.... ah, fuck it. Plot development and motivations were so obscure or obtuse all you can do to make sense of it is apply catchphrases from what it stole from... er, 'homaged'.
When a seemingly great idea for a movie falls apart due to bad execution. Horrible script, some serious pacing issues, and the lack of an actual final fight with the big boss (isn't that action movie 101?). They might have been able to pull it off as a TV series, but if they were planning to screw that up too, then they should have just held on to the idea.
The super-powered fight scenes are decently imaginative and the movie is pretty to look at. The concept is interesting. I can fully understand why someone would want to make this movie, but the script is all over the place and it just doesn't work. This obviously thought it was building a world for a new film franchise, but there are too many characters here, too many conveniences, too many ideas being presented and not properly fleshed out. The charms of Chris Evans go wasted once more.
