Set in the sixties but with a real sense of the 70's running through the production. A bit like Brighton's version of rebel without a cause! Honest, insightful and poinient in parts. Strong main characters (although equally dislikeable). The sound track is slightly out of place ironically, but that's a minor fault. Worth watching.

Works great as a timepiece but I just really couldn't sympathize with the main character at the end. I can understand the need to rebel but he just comes off as infantile.

Historical accuracy probably goes out the window with this film. Its far more interesting to view it as a cultural item mythologizing the Mods and Rockers and to enjoy The Who soundtrack.

One of the better rebellious youth pictures I've seen. My complaints are minor. Jimmy has some character traits I find unappealing. The other thing is that the Quadrophenia music feels incongruous with the period and the other songs. I love the music, but it doesn't fit. Otherwise, the film is very dynamic and engaging. In fact, the more I think about it, the more I like it and understand its cult appeal. It reminds me a bit of Harold & Maude, but without all the hippie life lessons.

"Quadrophenia" is undoubtably a British classic in its own right. Looking at the movie from a purely critical point of view it is easy to pick up on it faults and mixture of good and bad performances. But if you are watching this film looking for its faults you are missing the point. "Quadrophenia" is a snapshot of its era, of a culture and of a period in many young men and womens lives. It should be enjoyed for what it is, not what it fails at.

I'll never forgive Leslie Ash for the way she treated poor little Jimmy. And didn't Sting look amazing before he became a bell-end.

I've never understood the album's story so I don't know how great of an adaptation this is, but I think it does a great job of capturing the spirit of the times, of the album and of The Who. Phil Daniels is good and Sting manages to look pretty cool throughout.

Despite encapsulating a very specific time and place, the attitudes of the portrayed generation still ring relevant. Terrifically acted with a crackin', very colloquial script, this is a teen/young-adult film far more powerful and comforting than the others.

I love this movie. I love the music,it's some of The Who's best work. I'm fascinated by the era. Britain in the early 60's must have been an incredible time to be a teen. Riding around on your Vespa with your tailor made suits and your winklepickers listening to amazing music of the day... Sigh.

Despite its faults - and there are quite a few - a gem of a film about being young and caught up in a musical movement. Also, it has the Who, which ought to be good enough for anyone. Sting looks the complete tool as well.

The cultural warfare between the Mods and the Rockers in early-Sixties England takes a backseat, most of the way, to the more traditional warfare between the younger generation and their disapproving elders, which tends to blur this movie's identity with any number of Angry Young Man and Swinging London movies made in the Sixties. The Mod-Rocker phenomenon finally comes to flower in a brilliantly staged riot in the streets of Brighton

Wouldn't be so bad if the movie weren't dead set on showing us how much of a wet goof Jimmy is. I mean, I get the alienation and the way it clashes with a desire to belong, but this kid is really unlikeable. He makes me want to hit him, which can't have been the intent.
