Watched this is Paris and loved the melacholic french feel. Some impressive characterisations, particularly from Depardieu as the faded under-performing equivalent of Norma Desmond. Quirky filming of a charming story.

Giannoli did a good job since he focused this movie on the actors. Depardieu is marvellous as the elderly singer who failed to become popular. His character is never emberassing even though it would be easy to be so. Cecile de France does a great job in giving this movie the special french melancholy. And these two get supported by Amalric's vibrant acting. 14/02/09
