Apart from Crawfords performance, there's precious little of interest here- the other actors are servicably broody or innocent and the techinal aspects are never more or less than efficient while the plot is the usual melodramatic nonsense expected of this fare- but that being said, the aforementioned Crawford performance is simply awesome. It's grandiose, ripping, hysterical overacting of the finest vintage. In the end, this is still just another lurid kammerspiel like so many others, though.
