Rabbit-Proof Fence is amazing beautiful and very well acted. The real footage that we see at the end of the film is so powerful that the whole essence of what you have just watched becomes even more devastating. This is more than just an important film, its a documentation of an ugly and shameful part of Australian history. A must see!

I should have liked this more. I'm disappointed with how much I didn't love it. Gorgeous filmmaking, with calm intensity. Cinematography by the exceptional Christopher Doyle (Hero, In The Mood For Love etc.).

The film delivers a condemnation of the Australian government's longtime mistreatment of indigenous people simply by presenting the undisputed facts of that treatment. Noyce's film has a mild shakiness that's nearly inevitable when working largely with a cast of novice child actors (not to mention the challenge of getting a good performance out of Kenneth Branagh), but his assurance with the camera, the shots, with the simple mechanics of storytelling gives the film a fitting gravity.

Full of factual inaccuracies and exaggerated generalizations, Rabbit Proof Fence is hardly a captivating or "true" story

Despite some deplorable acts in the beginning courtesy of the Australian government, it takes a while to become invested in the plight of the "half-caste", due largely in part to the lead actress's inability to convey any sort of emotion to the audience. Eventually her journey through the epic wilderness and its lonely souls manages to relay the divide between invader and native, but in the end, when her travels have to be summarized in text, there is a sense that this is less than a whole work.

A great story and such a bittersweet victory. But as far as the movie goes, it didn't quite feel all together; the acting at times is incredibly over-under-the-top (can't explain it). The camerawork and pace were phenomonal though. P.S: That half-caste to white chart was messed up.
