Summary: Set in the 70s through 90s Malabar in Kerala, Thangal (Jagathi Sreekumar), a liberal minded Muslim, raises the son of a Hindu woman who died while under his care, along with his own daughter. And after his daughter Pookunju Beevi grows up, he gets her to learn Nangiarkoothu, a traditional Hindu temple art form, all of which doesn't bode well with Thangal's conservative brethren, especially after the 1992 Babri Masjid incident, which had further aggravated the tensions between Hindus & Muslims.
