Completely paint-by-number w/ its most similar predecessor being Stallone's arm-wrestle pic Over the Top, one can only explain the high marks critics r giving this by assuming their low expectations led 2 overwhelmingly pleasant surprise that this has got far more "heart" (i.e. glibly contrived sentiment) than something as soulless & enervating as Transformers. It's another Rocky for 12 year old boys, & although that's not saying much, it is indeed far better than another Michael Bay pummel-fest

A very genuine concept that never got off the ground because it was unsure of what exactly it was. It was a watered down, child like version of Rocky that tried to come at you with explosive and engaging characters, but fundamentally it failed to do so at all. Jackmans Charlie was all over the place as far as characterization, and who actually went the full 127 minutes without getting annoyed at least once with the kids trash talking attitude?

In what is probably my favourite boxing movie so far, Elfman and Eminem added a lot of drive to the film. Despite the film's subject, style and theme, this was much needed as the boo-hoo-hoo father/son story was an unexpected turn-off and unnecessary slowed the film down. Fortunately, an inspired Jackman manages to save even that part - and Lilly is lovely as ever, of course. In the end, the film gets a 'Good' rating, but owes it mostly to the special effects - a very rare thing for me to say.

A really boring and predictable plot. Atleast they could have used "Eye of the tiger" in the training section. Was there a suggestion that the robot has selfconcious moments? And those kids-teach-parents-how-to-live stuff are so 1990s. The ending was better than expected, but that doesn't mean it was good.

I can hardly remember the last film I have watched before this that was so filled with blockbuster clichés. You figure out the entire storyline by the time the opening credits are over. Not a must see in my opinion but after all it has Hugh Jackman and fighting robots. The kid is annoying though.

So Shawn Levy and John Gatins tries to recreate Rocky with robots. And that is all. I mean, the concept of robot fighting having replaced human boxing is, honestly, not that far-fetched in today's health-dominated society. It is rather average, though. There is nothing really thought provoking or overly interesting going on. One thing it did have, though, was some nice CGI; the robots (and their fights) were stunning. Otherwise, I wasn't really moved or emerged in the film, it was simply there.

A surprisingly entertaining film that is a dramatic sci-fi sports hybrid. Surpasses its mediocre script filled with cheesy dialogue because it's so moving and fun. Not among the best of 2011 by any means, but it's memorable.

As a film, this is incredibly generic father-son, feel good, boxing film that tries very hard to use every cliche in the book while still being about robots. This includes a former boxer-turned trainer, dad watching after his kid for X amount of time, and many more I cant list in the character limit. Yet, the robot fights are very well done. It's worth watching just to see how much better these robots fights are compared to the awful car-crash fights from the Transformers films. 2.5/5

And here I thought that I came so well prepared. I already knew it was 'Rocky' with Robots and a bit of 'Over the Top' crammed in there. I knew it would stray from robot mayhem into amateur writing hour, and Jackman, Lilly and some piss annoying kid would stutter through the toebreakingly bad dramatic scenes. But I didn't see the breakdancing robot coming. I DIDN'T SEE IT COMING!! OH MY FUCKING GOD, HOW CAN I NOT HAVE SEEN THAT COMING?!?!
