Somehow mixes John Wick's plot with a cast inspired by another movie named Red. Puzzling because it predates both of those films. Frankly, I think it's obvious that Brian Cox skipped out on the John Wick requisite months of training and his gun-fu really suffers for it.

A revenge flick sans tension. Freddy sans melted face. Grand Turino sans Grand (and Turino). A Werther's Original commercial sans grandpa's erection.

Brilliant drama thriller! Great little story. Dramatic and exciting the whole way through!

More drama than thriller, more justice than downright revenge, this clumsy-yet-powerful film based on the novel of the same name by Jack Ketchum is a touching, thoughtprovoking story of a man whose dear dog is shot by three careless teenagers. While he goes after the boys (not by toting a gun, as the DVD cover might suggest) we get a glimpse on his past life and the tragedy that has taken place. The common myth of the lonely, quiet American cowboy is shattered profoundly.

One of the more satisfying revenge flicks I've seen. Somehow, however, the simplicity of the story makes it seem kind of stupid. Great performances (sans the reporter...worthless side character), but I kept thinking, "how was this made into a movie?" Seriously, a producer got a script that says, "a boy kills a dog and the owner wants him to say sorry."

The first two-thirds are excellent, and Brian Cox is quite exceptional. Then it all goes tits up.

Really good drama from Lucky Mckee, a director I have had my eye on ever since seeing "May". Stays on point and keeps you engaged throughout, I really enjoyed this movie. Brian cox really does this role justice.

Life is a dog in the gun America. This is a good drama of surviving in real life.

Great film with a superb performance by Brian Cox. My main grip with the film was that it was shot digitally and really looks like it, something really should've been done in post in my opinion to get rid of that digital feel but I suppose that's more personal preference than anything. Aside from that it is a great film full of characters with depth, well except for the animal murdering kid who I found to be just a shallow lying asshole.

Excellent performance by Brian Cox. I think one of his best to date. I did think that the direction of Tom Sizemore's character for the confrontation on the porch was off. It was not in keeping with his actions during the rest of the film. That's my only qualm, though. This film was a Netflix Watch Instantly choice and a nice find.

"Red is the best Ketchum adaptation to date, just edging out The Girl Next Door. It earns this achievement thanks to Brian Cox's amazing performance."

Good. A small town man's god is shot and then he spends the rest of the film trying to get justice. There's nothing really wrong with this film, just didn't work for me. You might like it. Watch the trailer first.

Loved it. Bryan Cox gives a very touching performance about a man whose dog was shot in cold blood. The way the movie escalates really knocks that tension up pretty well. Acting was excellent and the chemistry between the actors worked very well. I like almost all the actors that were involved. Great movie, worth giving a glance too.

Somewhat low-key morality play in the form of an anti-revenge revenge tale, that builds tension for a while, and perhaps confounds generic expectations, but for all that never really manages to excite.

The simplicity of the story and its subtle execution pulled me in. Among good things are the right amount of suspense it manages to keep through its runtime and Brian Cox's performance; a bit worse is kind of overlooked side characters, that we hardly get the time to get to know. But OK, after all it is about the old man and his dog.

Don't fuck with the dog, I said don't fuck with the dog; uh-oh now you did it. Cox is really good and carries the movie, a little too many subplots stops it from being great.
