Summary: After trading in his professional past as a black-ops CIA agent for a new identity, Frank Moses (Bruce Willis) is basking in normalcy. But he's forced to return to old habits when a shadowy assassin puts a target on his back and goes after the woman (Mary-Louise Parker) he loves. Morgan Freeman, Helen Mirren and John Malkovich co-star as former members of Moses's team who reluctantly reassemble to save his life.
Ironically, the problem wasn't that this was too silly or the over-the-top--just the opposite. If this had a chance, the filmmakers needed to go something more like a cartoon. Snazzier direction could have helped, too (e.g., Tony Scott). Oh, a better script would have helped as well.
It's just too bad the stars aren't really given all that much to do, and what they are given isn't all that entertaining. The film does have times where it is really funny, and a couple big action scenes, but the gaps between these almost managed to make me want to fall asleep. There just isn't all that much to Red. It doesn't really explore what getting old is like, it isn't incredibly funny, and what action scenes it does have are too infrequent to actually matter.
A bunch of sociopathic murderers go around nonchalantly murdering people and make unfunny jokes while doing it. Tries to have wry wit and be quippy like the Oceans movies but fails. I was at least intrigued by the budding relationship between Willis and Parker, but that fizzles out and doesn't go anywhere. I expected to read a lot of negative reviews for this but apparently a lot of people liked it. I'm disappointed by my fellow people. You have let me down.
HAHA. Great comedy, very quotable, and amazing action. Watch on a big screen but can still be enjoyed if you have a small one. It's a big budget action adventure with a great cast.
Touches on all those elements we love but overall won't let us even get past second base. Plot is underwhelming and once the credits roll you realize that it was all pointless to begin with. Somewhat but not totally disappointing.
Movie would have been fucking fantastic had it not been for the lack of old people kicking ass. Ignore the plot to this piece of shit, cause it's lame, but then what do you have? You have some comedic interaction, sure, but where's the old people kicking ass?
Eh, a grizzled old bastard gets called back into action after many years of retirement from being an elite CIA operative. It's exactly what you would expect and then some. There's some creativity in the traps and the sets, but isn't that true for any movie that features some kind of Intelligence Conspiracy?
i've read somewhere that people thought these actors were wasted on this movie, but these actors being in this delightfully silly movie makes it what it is. A great popcorn flick and the experience is similar to oceans 11: actors clearly having fun on the big screen, a rare sight.
