It's hard for me to pinpoint why I'm not rating this film lower. The dialogue can be stilted. 'Scientists v. Mentalists' is a difficult conflict to sell as an apocalyptic struggle, and the film only partially succeeds at setting the right tone. There's a general messiness here. Maybe I'm happy at being reminded of M. Night Shyamalan back when he was making good movies. (He would approve of the ending.) The people involved do elevate the material, and I'm a sucker for weird.

I'm giving this a higher rating than otherwise because I adore gazing at Cillian Murphy's gorgeous blue eyes, I admire Sigourney Weaver in whatever she does, and ever since Stardust, it's become my guilty pleasure to watch Robert de Niro chew scenery. But I do wish the director/screenwriter would make up his mind what story he wanted to tell. The film is fun but confusing. You can make more sense of the plot of The Big Sleep. I could have done without Cillian's whiny love interest.

This movie doesn't seem quite sure what it wants to be. There's the compelling, X-Files-style psychic-debunking procedural side of things, which occupies around half the screentime, and is the most successful and engaging aspect of the movie. There's the psychological horror side of things, which is less successful, despite Cillian Murphy's best efforts. There's an "emotional" subplot, which is completely forgettable. And there's the final-reel twist sequence, which makes not a lick of sense.

As others have noted the last third kills the movie. "Red Lights" is undeniably competently made and it ticks along nicely until we lose Weaver. The movie suffers terribly without her, with Murphy, Olsen and De Niro never managing to complete with her excellent performance; which it has to be is said is probably the movies strongest asset. Overall, although respectable in many departments, "Red Lights" is a movie that loses it way, and ends up relying obvious twists and easy outs.

The first two acts are actually decent and keep you interested. And then, when Weaver's character dies, Cortés puts his film in a path of easy plot twists and boring tricks, maybe thinking he's making the spectator feel he's a smart director. It's clearly the opposite, you know.

The movie starts out pretty good, but then takes an absolute nosedive in the third act. It can't decide if it wants to be skeptical or a believer in the supernatural. And a lot of stuff was just not explained very well, and most of the characters were wasted. It had potential, but that third act desperately needed a rewrite.

This is as jaw-droppingly incompetent as anything Ed Wood ever came up with, but it's just so damned sincere. I mean, it's got the consistency, logic, and visual sense of a thirteen-year-old's backyard adventures with a camcorder, but everybody behind the camera appears to be trying really hard. Becomes kinda pitiful after awhile, though that head-scratchingly slumming big name cast has some explaining to do.

Though the first part of the movie works great, then some (aparently) unnecessary thrilling moments and specially what looks as a betrayal to its introduction intentions, the movie decays in both excitement and content. Still Rodrigo Cortés directs the movie correctly and technically its ok, it's more the writting, the story and the way it's told, what spoils the experience.

Intriguing cast and first half of the film as well, but then plot and especially execution takes a dive to something not that enjoyable or well done.
Good performances from the cast, and again ElizabethO is just ridiculously watchable.

This movie was a great surprise. I knew that I would probably like it with the star power of Robert De Niro, Sigourney Weaver, Elizabeth Olsen and Cillian Murphy. I had no idea though that the film was on such an interesting subject such as the science of paranormal things like telepathy and telekinesis. Murphy was in command in this film as the lead character and the twist at the end was superb. If you like a good thriller that keeps you guessing until the end... see this movie. I loved it!

A pretentious mess of a film. It was such a promising premise and it went along greatly for the first third of the film, but as soon as Weaver's character is suddenly taken out of the picture in an almost even contrived manner, the film plummets at a shockingly awful rate. Seriously sloppy editing and pacing, pretentious monologues that make no sense and the final twist just makes the overall film drop like an anvil

I really enjoyed this movie. Cillian Murphy does a fine job, and the plot is pretty interesting. I especially love the twist at the end, and although everyone pretends that they are so genius they saw it coming, I did not and that made this movie quite enjoyable for me.

A lot of hate out there for the third act. How's this--I hated the first and second just as much. De Niro playing a hack that everyone loves for his past performances was the most believable part of this movie. Watching him on the plane gave me deep-vein thrombosis.

It takes a special kind of bad writer to ruin what was, up until the very end, a neat little twist on the supernatural horror genre. Robert, I think it's time to throw in the towel. It was tragic at first but now I'm really just starting to dislike you.
