A big dumb film about a big dumb war.

When a movie this awful talks about important things, it feels insulting. No, Redacted, you don't get to comment upon the Iraq War, and abusive American soldiers. You don't get to show brutal violence, because you are in no way believable. You harm the cause you seek to serve.

De Palma has made a 'fictional' film about the war in Iraq that with montages from video sources and the swapping of point of views - "Redacted" becomes more similar to a news piece than a film. Its unique and at the same time hard to watch.

Frightening

Seemed a little redundant of casualties of war, which was a little more well-executed I think. still kinda great.

Interesting to a certain degree. Lack of nuance hinder complexity, and the film becomes far less effective because of some highly unfortunate stereotypes present throughout the journey. Partly fascinating, but ultimately pretty sterile.

Powerful. Creative. Shocking. Odd. What a remarkable film, at least if you don't let the few stereotypical characters spoil it. The last few minutes left me speechless.

the last few minutes (starting from the great pub scene) are particularly powerful and De Palma's methods are worth analyzing. but it's just too manipulative and, let's face it, boring most of the time...

DePalma's brave style works for an hour, but gets a bit dull for the end, just like the whole movie.

De Palma pushes the boundaries of realistic looking films by making some sort of a montage from different fake videosources. Most of the time it works like a charm but in the middle it has few weaker moments.
