I read somewhere that this is a movie that takes place in the subjunctive tense. I like that description.

One of the finest films from Norway the last few years, telling a story about the human psyche.

Fantastic film; a classic coming-of-age story, but one of the few I could actually relate to. Incredibly well written and well paced (it could have gone horribly wrong considering the unusual narrative technique), with good cinematography and a perfect cast. And despite the serious nature of the film, it's very funny. Also, and I can't help mentioning it, Victoria Winge as Kari is hauntingly beautiful.

A wonderfully handled Norwegian drama about the anxieties of youth. Between 'Oslo, August 31st' and this film, Joachim Trier is, for my money, the most exciting European director currently active.

Starts with a bang, and there are good performances by the entire ensemble, but does not manage to hold the viewer's interest for the duration. Despite containing numerous interesting, inventive and amusing moments, in the end it becomes a bit directionless and even tiresome.

I can see why this film gets a lot of praise. Trier's direction is cool in a fresh and intuitive way. He puts emotion before plot, and it makes the film seem very organic. But somehow, it doesn't get to me. Part of the problem is Phillip whose psychoses seemed thematically distracting, and thus annoying. There were also a few badly written scenes in which the events were way too forced and unbelievable. Overall, I think of it as a film with some bad, a lot of good, but hardly no great moments.

Reprise is very ambitious, and quite challenging at times. It's an intellectually aspirational film, but it largely avoids being pretentious. It can be very gloomy and even depressing in some sections, but it also has a lot of fun and excitement going for it. Trier may have bitten over a bit more than he could chew, but that's a lot better than never having bitten over anything at all, or however the saying goes.

Very stylish, good acting, even some decent text, but gives the sense that Trier doesn't fully understand what literature is about and what a literary scene looks like. I counted 7 fictional novelists in the film (one is only mentioned by name), all of them men (the only women here are love interests), and all discussion of actual fiction and writing seems rudimentary and superficial. Not that successful writers can't be competitive and shallow - they usually are - but there's more to it.

The pretentiousness and angsty self-seriousness is to be expected from a first film, so I’ll forgive that even if it’s pretty rough at times (and Louder Than Bombs had similar issues, which makes it a bit of a line call). The style and humour shine through, and there is genuine emotion conveyed through it all. Makes me a bit concerned about his next one, despite liking this overall, especially because I found Danielsen Lie a very weak, uncharismatic lead.

Super stylish and pretty melancholy, kinda cool to see a coming-of-age tale for like, adults. The film is really driven by a mix of interesting editing and cinematography choices and the fantastic central performances, though I probably have a weak spot for the depiction of the punk scene the characters are kinda from. Cool movie cooler soundtrack cooler movie still

As good a depiction twenty-something angst as I've seen. Great editing, sound and cinematography. Somehow failed to make a pleasing whole.

Blown away by these early Trier films. The dynamic between Erik and Phillip recalled the novel "The Loser" by Thomas Bernhard. An excellent observation of creative anxiety and impostor syndrome that also considers the effect this type of self-obsession has with external relationships.

Toys with conventional narrative and editing in a risky way, but pulls it off well. It also manages to pull off a combination of gritty realism and fresh comedy. This is a pretty unique film really, particularly compared to other Norwegian films. I've seen several Norwegian films that I've enjoyed, but I haven't before seen a movie that actually restored my faith in the Norwegian movie industry. So I guess this is pretty great. Couldn't get enough of Victoria Winge.

A film that needed a narrator because it wasn't good enough in itself. Problem is the narration is more like a novel on tape.

Interesting little film. Appreciated the formal qualities--particularly the way the narrative unfolded in stops and starts, the slightly satirical narration, and the use of occasionally abrupt and jarring edits. Further, the lead characters are types that are easy to hate, but end up evoking a modicum of sympathy by virtue of a gentle directing touch.

Quite clear that this is a first movie of a talented filmmaker. There is a lot of spirited filmmaking at play, especially in the erratic editing and montages. The characters all feel like good representations of types of people you'd recognize and their personal dynamics are source of some humor, but the movie is never hilarious and the central drama feels a little trite in 2020. The acting is good, but never great. Felt the ending was vague because it wanted to be artful and not artfully vague.

I enjoyed the unusual way it chose to tell its story and I liked Kari, Phillip and Erik. The rest of the characters were kind of disposable but it's not about them really. There are some inspired scenes but sometimes the movie just plods along and lost me a few times. Still, it's a completely well made movie that could have gone terribly wrong and didn't. 10 points for the dog taking Erik out as well... I laughed really hard.

a decent start for the director, a bit cliché, schizo writer and his obsession: the cute love of his life, the idea of wanting to write is something bla bla. too optimistic for my taste, but generally good, flows nice, better than average cinematography although looks very much like deviantart photos.

I'm not sure this gives an accurate glimpse of Joachim Trier's later films. It's well-made; via the dreamy editing, ambient soundtrack, and quiet performances. But unlike his future movies, this one could've benefitted from one more pass on the script. The background characters have a sameness and one hero's mental health problems never come into lucid clarity. Still, he's the only filmmaker whose work doubles as breakthrough therapy sessions; providing insight on life's obstacles. Recommended.

Oslo üçlemesiyle varoluş sancısına, bunalıma, yabancılaşmaya doyduk çok şükür.  Hatta hayata dair bi şeyleri sorgulama dozunu arttırdık. Ama buna rağmen bu üçleme izlenmeli mi? Evet. Ben gidip bi kızıma sarılayım da hayattaki çoğu şeyin anlamsız gelmesi psikozundan bi sıyrılayım.^^ (Kalp)

23-24 yaslarinda Joy Division dinleyip dilin amina koyan kitaplar yazan hallice genclerin hikayesi - baya benzer kafalar.

The worst advertisment of becoming a writer since the movie about Virginia Woolf, or maybe ever. Everyone here is an obnoxious boring sad piece of shit, that I hope to never meet in real life, not to mention spending any amount of time with them. 3,2,1,SLUT!

I have finished the Oslo Trilogy in a bizarre order starting from Oslo, August 31st, to end with Reprise, which I think is a very powerful demonstration of friendship, failures, and lust for life. It has such a pace that allows you to go with the flow but also lean back and think about everything in your life. Very few films can do that.
