What I liked less it's that it begins as a story about the emptiness of death, about the big nothing, but then it just becames sweet, hopeful, with a "maybe then...". I liked the original and interesting idea of two teenagers obsessed with death, and making it later something more usual, something we all have seen before, and having some ridiculous scenes also, just spoils it. Another thing I didn't like was the music, it just seems to don't fit the picture. Good first half, after that...

This had a lot of potential but there was no chemistry between the two actors. Even though the girl who plays Annabelle is really good in this the script is so awkward that it's hard to get into the film. With the bad soft guitar music playing constantly this almost felt like a made-for-TV tearjerker and it was only personal interest that kept me going.

All that keeps the death-infatuated Restless from being laughably dismissed like last year's Charlie St. Cloud is that it's signed by Gus Van Sant.

This is Gus Van Sant trying to make an "indie" style quirky movie. He mostly fails. It felt a bit forced.

Oh, now Gus, the ultimate director of outsiders, entered this niche of blue, sad, morbidly funny indie coming of age films, huh? This was such a poor move for him. Restless is a nule, bland, breezy teen romance, maybe Harold and Maude-inspired, barely watchable after 30 or 40 minutes. Deathly flop.

Gus Van Sant's first mis-step in quite some time. And rather a large step it is too.
