First and foremost, the acting by the leads in this movie is superb. Jeremy Irons is that rarest of finds, the deserving Oscar winner, and Ron Silver is the only thing that keeps his obnoxiously lengthy scenes bearable (his legal team is largely rendered cringe-worthy by mediocre acting and worse writing). Even Glenn Close, who I usually think is overrated, is truly great. But the screenplay has no balance and depends too much on cliché; often it feels like a Lifetime movie of the week.

Close and Irons are really masters of acting.. It's a classy and intelligent film.

I've always liked Jeremy Irons. Here he's restrained, playing the perfect note for every scene. You always get the feeling there's more going on in his head than he's saying, which is admirable acting for any role. The film itself is strongly involving, and the final scene brilliantly wraps up the ambiguity of the entire case.

This movie was OK. Great performances by Close, Irons, and Silver save the ham-handed script, performances, and characterizations of the supporting cast.

A chilling film. The acting is excellent, but Jeremy Irons--always superb--is extraordinary here. Christine Barankski is memorable in a supporting role.

Great performace, good movie.

Not so close to the real story but apart from it, it's quite a nice movie, specially the performances.
