Historical dramas have not been a favourite of mine, many feeling as if the period being shown is cut off by a barrier which prevents any engagement with them. This also suffers from the fact that it never really delves into the importance of the American War of Independence despite recreating it. Instead of concentrating on the political, cultural and, considering the USA, spiritual importance of the war, its content with grotesque British stereotypes and anaemic drama.
