Absolutely great. I was amazed at how well the WWII inspired setting worked for this. McKellen is memorizing as the menacing but persuasive Ricard.

Extraordinary production of Shakespeare's play, with a first-rate cast scoring strongly in every role, headed by McKellen who brings an especially devious quality to his Richard.

On the verge of being really good, a star-studded cast is ultimately let down by some questionable scripting. McKellan is great, albeit a little old for Richard III, and Annette Benning and Robert Downey Jr. are good casting choices. The guy who plays James Tyrrell, however, steals the show. A fun film to see if you love Richard III, but it's really got nothing on Olivier's version.

Set in its own version of the 1930's, Richard Loncraine's version accomplishes the feat of making the play's original dialogue sound modern and vivid, thanks to a cast of seasoned British actors, most of whom went on to teach at Hogwarts or fight the X-Men. This might as well be the definitive film version of the play.

One only has to take a look at the cast to grasp the amazingness of this film... And as an adaption, it is simply wonderful as well...

Easily now my favorite Shakespeare adaptation. The entire cast is amazing but McKellen shines above the rest with a chilling and wickedly amusing passion. A must see for anyone who doubts that Shakespeare can be interesting.

Set in a fascist 1930s Europe, this is a whole lot better than it has any right to be.

Ian McKellan carries this movie to be sure. But the setting of a Fascist Britain works magnificently to the movies advantage as well.

Amazing shakespeare adaption with an awesome cast. Mc Kellen acts wonderful.
