Summary: In a dystopic & crime ridden Detroit, a terminally wounded cop returns to the force as a powerful cyborg with submerged memories haunting him (imdb)
Smashing, graphically violent thriller set in the future. Great action scenes, solid acting, and abundant humor and futuristic detail make this a winner.
Great action, good story and very memorable theme song. This one is probably one of the best shooting movies from 80's. Suddenly I can't remember any other movie where the good story and action would meet like they do in Robocop. Besides that there's a lot of humour that creates a lot of personality in the movie.
With suspense created out of thin air, no one to root for, and disgusting mutilation, Robocop simply never finds its step and takes us on a thrill ride that we want to get off.
robocop may be a bit on the cheesy side, but it's still an action packed sci-fi movie, and if you haven't heard of it there is something seriously wrong with you. also robocop has some of the best one-liner catch phrases to come out of the 80's "excuse me, i have to go, somewhere there's a crime happening."
Surprisingly modern and intelligent satirical action-sci-fi. Could have been a criticism of Haliburton or neo-con privatization of public services, the dehumanization of man in modern corporate thought, or just a kick-ass violent, bloody action movie. Some things - the robocop concept and the stop-motion - are dated, but the direction and overall movie is awesome.
Prescient sci-fi allegory satirizing mankind's increasing dependency on technology at the loss of its humanity, bolstered by dark humor and ultraviolence. The mock TV commercials littered throughout are Verhoeven's calling card.
