This film was adapted from a stage play not designed for the Marx Brothers, and it shows. The three often seem out of place in their roles, and the whole thing feels slow-paced and dreary.

Not the worst of the Marx films, but pretty close. A one room play isn't necessarily a bad direction to go for pure comedy, but for an act as big and as fast as the Marx Bros. it's stifling. And what the hell was Lucille Ball doing? Who decided she should be the foil? It was disconcerting to see her chomping at the bit in a straight role. There was enough funny to make it not suck, but only enough to make it not suck.

takes so long to pick up that by the time it finnally does there's nothing the marx brothers can do to save this from failure. i have been frequently disappointed by the marx brothers, especially since they're held in such high regard.
