The story is important, but it feels a documentary would do it more justice. Stewart shouldn't quite his day job. Oh wait!

Not very immersive, narratively speaking. Very cool performances, though. I really dig the fact Kim Bodnia is in this. :D

despite its heart is in the right place, narrating is just terrible.

Literally the definition of "nothing to write home about." Gael Garcia Bernal is very good in it.

A film mainly to make you look at Iran in a different light - first positive, then very negative. The first half of the film was very dynamic, even exciting at times, using non-linearity, locations, visual storytelling and spatial displacement to keep thing perpetually interesting. The second half was almost like the work of a different director. Long, slow prison sequences, trying to ram home the point about mistreatment of "dissidents". Few prison dramas are this trying. Could have done more.

A very good first effort for Jon Stewart behind the camera. The acting is great and the story is interesting and, in many ways, inspiring. Movies like this make me wonder if I would have the courage to stand up for simple ideals when I could very well be imprisoned, tortured, or worse. The answer is probably no because I am a coward.

Could have been a way better movie.. but a very important story to be told and seen.

I enjoyed the movie and was never bored, which I thought I would be. Judging by other reviews, I liked it more than most people. It loses points because sometimes things just don't make sense, in particular, the ending. But who knows, this entire story really doesn't make sense yet it actually happened.

Good, but not great. Essentially a fictionalised documentary. Not a bad effort by any means and Jon Stewart should keep it up after he's done with The Daily Show

Absolutely fails to deliver any kind of suspense or emotion despite the decent acting.

It shows us that ultimately Iran is like any country. Full of bureaucracy and people trying to inflate their position and importance despite being low on the ladder and belittled by their boss.

I just learned a new cuss word, sisterfuckers! Thank you Jon Stewart.

As much as I want to see Stewart succeed in all things he do, this ends up more as a valiant attempt than a proper good movie. Still, it does offer an interesting and nuanced view on the Middle East, something you don't see that often in American films.

In the end, Rosewater is kind of forgettable, which is exactly what it shouldn't be. Bernal is solid, as usual, but the film fails to deliver much tension or make me worry about his safety. I don't doubt that Stewart won't give something impressive in the future, but this is mediocre.
