It's considerably better than many of the other entries in the Beckett on Film series, due almost certainly to the fact that these characters feel human, and not desperate attempts to clutch allegory from surroundings that don't want to give it up. It's definitely rich with subtext, if you care to pick it apart, but O'Shea and Kelly are a joy to watch as they bring their respective characters to life in a way that Beckett could seldom manage.
