It's a great idea and it's dripping with aestheticism, but the content is severly lacking. The dialogue is trying so desperately to be meaningful that, paradoxically, it finds itself stripped of any real coherence, leaving Spall and Norton with pathetically little to work with. Written by anyone other than Beckett, this would never have hit the stage, let alone the screen.
