In hindsight, this short music video by Chris Cunningham, infamous for his Come To Daddy video for Aphex Twin, is not as good as some of his other work (Monkey Drummer is far more better in terms of its titular image). As music videos go though, this has far more personality to it than many I have seen and stands out of hundreds immediately.

Extremely uncomfortable viewing. Cunningham's control over the image is uncanny. Sadly this short film/music video wants little else but to dazzle with it's technical innovation, and 'Rubber Johnny' end up feeling very "show reel'-ish. It will do while we wait for Cunningham to make his first real movie. A venture into horror, perhaps?

Intensely creepy, and Aphex's song is wonderful.

I didn't know what the fuck was going on until Aphex Twin came on. Then it all made too much sense.

Fortunately I was given a backstory before I watched this, because the "movie" itself doesn't bother giving you much of a storyline. It starts off interesting with a short interview, but then the music starts and from there it's just random images of a pale disfigured guy dancing. Nothing in the clip itself suggests that there's anything special about his body apart from the obvious deformation, but it's hard to tell from the mess. More of a music video than a movie.

Beginning is excellent and creepy, the rest less so but still fun. Cunningham needs to work on a horror film or something, the results would be mind-blowing.

Started out uncomfortably awesome, but unfortunately the Aphex Twins came on and the video became quite unpleasant with too much a shift in the editing, although the ending reaches back to its roots which was refreshing. Would love to see Cunningham get together with a great writer and make a horror film.

Good, silly fun. Actually, it starts off really creepy (which I actually preferred) and then it becomes good silly fun.

Worth seeing just because it's weird, but not worth spending money on. Yet another of Chris Cunningham's "I'm weird, look! Pay attention to me!" short movies.

Er, this is mostly an Aphex Twin music video. At first I thought it was going to be a weird and disturbing little film, but once the got going I felt like I was watching a messed up blobby raver. The effects and editing are pretty impressive I suppose. I like Cunningham's other Aphex videos quite a bit more.

At first it's really creepy, but that feeling evaporates pretty fast. It sure is always crazy though.

I wish the face-splattering effects had stuck around long enough to really admire and enjoy, because they're the most interesting and believable effect exhibited here.
