Basically just a really well made normal documentary. Nothing spectacular, except of course the music.

Living on a lighted stage approaches the unreal for those who think and feel in touch with some reality beyond the gilded cage. Cast in this unlikely role, ill-equipped to act, with insufficient tact, one must put up barriers to keep oneself intact. Living in the limelight, the universal dream for those who wish to seem. Those who wish to be must put aside the alienation, get on with the fascination, the real relation, the underlying theme.

i have recommended this to a bunch of people and I am always met with the same response: "I don't like Rush". Inevitably, I talk them into it, they watch it and call me back saying that they now love them. Sam Dunn has really mastered the music documentary. He knows how to make the players interesting and uses animations in an extremely effective manner to convey information. Check it out even if you don't like Rush.

I went into this knowing nothing about Rush other than 1. They're Canadian and 2. they have a cult following. I came out of it with the impression that they're kind of cool people who make interesting music that doesn't appeal to me and have obnoxious fans, including Jack Black. As a film it's pretty mediocre, just interviews and music clips with little of interest in the editing or style and rather badly paced to boot. The fan interviews, even if they're celebrities, are the worst.

I never really gave these guys their dues before, but now, I'm fairly convinced they're some of the greatest musicians of all time.
