Very much surprised by this movie. Great performances from Denzel and Ryan R. Constant action dictates this movie with a pretty predictable twist at the end. A great example of how a pure action movie should be (with some added mystery, crime and suspense).

You get two films for the price of one, Denzel with beard and without. The girlfriend angle should have been left out, totally irrelevant to the plot. But all in all it is a decent movie.

Reynolds is trying too hard. Washington and the scriptwriter barely try at all.

Essentially, this South Africa-based thriller seems to pursue the expressionism of Tony Scott's latest films, but achieves mostly average results: Denzel is always good to watch, even in an easy role for him to play, and Reynolds, this is kind of surprising, embodies with compromise a naive but brave safe house keeper that is suddenly trapped in a net of constant betrayal -- here, it kind of resembles Enemy of the state. As a whole, just the basic post-Bourne CIA action movie.

My biggest problem was the predictability of the villain's identity. Is it too much to ask, that in one out of a hundred films, we occasionally get to be surprised by finding out who the villain is? I don't think so. Competently put together, Reynolds and Washington are two actors I like, fairly engaging plot... A pretty entertaining film, which let me down a little.

a disposable action flick that'll manage to entertain you for the time you're watching it and no more. don't expect any profound statements or sublime direction and you'll be fine.

Plenty of edge of the seat action and great performances throughout but I think that it would have been far more interesting to keep the story within the confines of the safe house.

Unlike most people I actually am ok with the shaky cam. Turns out the shaky cam helped stop the director from over doing it with the artsy angles he was going for. The acting was better than expected. More than anything it felt like a Bourne rip off with a plot that just didn't work as well. The violence was surprisingly brutal in both a good and bad way. Finally, I think Denzel has become the new Liam Neeson in that he was respected as an actor and is now just doing cheap action flicks.

Safe House is edited too frenetically, shot with too much shaky camerawork, and often set in dark locations so as to make sure we don't see what's really going on. It's a combination of the three things you don't want to do if you want your audience to be able to follow along with the action scenes, and this film decides to ignore logic and utilize all three. The plot is as basic as these things come, right up to the last twist, and Denzel seemed as if he was asleep throughout the entire film.

Brisk, smooth, chunky action in the Tony Scott vein. Efficient and involving; Denzel's super-authoritative, as always, and the story hums along nicely, if predictably. It would have worked better and been more crackling, though, if they hadn't portrayed Reynolds' character as so wide-eyed--and if the whole thing hadn't been so oddly bloodless.

Denzel is so fast that he can outpace pursuers just by walking. Ryan Reynolds shows how great of an actor he is by almost crying about 5 times. They both are so bad ass that they can survive multiple car crashes with only slight scratches. Avoid if you like plots that make sense and characters you actually care about.

Maybe I'm being too easy on this but it was fun. It does really nothing original, and I actually saw the plot twist coming but by that point I was already havin' a good time. Denzel is always awesome, Reynolds was good too. Solid cast all around, and it was pretty thrilling. A movie doesn't have to be original, it just has to do it well, and this moved along at a good pace.

It moves along at a brisk clip and (even phoning it in) Denzel is always entertaining to watch, but this is real, real generic Thriller 101 stuff. The narrative, characters, "twists," and action scenes here are all super-basic stuff you've seen a million times before (hell, probably a few hundred times in the TV show 24 alone). The best way to describe this movie is as irrelevant - by 2015, it will be forgotten as if it had never existed.

I was expecting a mediocre action film with some nice action sequences and a couple of really good actors, but despite my low expectations this still managed to disappoint. The plot was as simple as expected with a lot blatantly stolen from the Bourne films and a stupidly predictable twist. The action scenes are so poorly edited that they're not even fun to watch and even Reynolds' and Washington's characters arnt really anything special, though they both put in reasonable performances

The performances were good, but the opening is so strong that the rest of this mediocre film let's you down slowly. Plus they put a whole lot of weight on the fact that corruption in the CIA, in a fictional film, is somehow going to resonate with the viewer.

This megawatt cast has been assembled to deliver by-the-numbers action and story that is only elevated by the fact that we have these actors that are far better than the material would have you believe. I will attest I didn’t have a bad time at the film. It’s adequately shot, very violent, gritty, just not for any particularly engaging reason.

A very entertaining film if you try and keep it away from comparison. It is always fun to watch Denzel Dazzle his audiences with his acting. Safe House is no different, he does just that and it proves to be just right. Could have probably been tighter, less predictable, but if for nothing else this film gets an 87 because of Denzel Washington and his ability to make anything he touches gold.

Like many others I pretty well had it set in my mind that either one of two characters was going to be involved in the inevitable plot twist, and I was right, but it wasn't poorly done. In fact, nothing in the movie was poorly done. It was another inoffensive viewing experience, good for what it was but not something I'll seek out again. It's certainly worth seeing in theatres, though. Forewarned though, if you are jumpy (like I am) this movie will pray on you. Many jumpy moments to be found.
