It's much better than the original, but that doesn't necessarily make it really good. Rob Lowe makes for a great Ben Mears, and Donald Sutherland is campily entertaining as always, but this miniseries is entertaining for its camp value rather than actual merit.

More faithful to the book does not always equal better as a film. Mick Garris proved this with The Shining, and the same holds true with this one. Stick to the Tobe Hooper mini-series.
