Summary: After she's accused of being a Russian sleeper spy, rogue CIA agent Evelyn Salt (Angelina Jolie) goes on the run, using every tactic, accent and disguise she knows to elude her pursuers, clear her name and protect her husband. Her supervisor, Winter (Liev Schreiber), buys her story, while counterintelligence officer Peabody (Chiwetel Ejiofor) decidedly does not and will do anything to stop her in this fast-paced, intrigue-filled spy adventure.
"I am not a spy". Angelina Jolie looked terrible as a blonde. Just not a very good movie. Also not a fan of a movie where the President of the United States of America get shot by a dumb ass russian spy.
No mystery in this one, just action scenes for MS. Jolie to show off. Almost every scene was predictable. The score is for the costumes, not for the bad hair.
So goddamn dull; I was doing everything in my power to watch this and even though I saw it in cinema I felt constantly distracted. Very unimpressive, despite that there was potential here. Starts off kinda good but it really loses its way, and fast.
Even going into this expecting a silly action flick didn't prepare me for the preposterous plot. Jolie is fine as an action lead, but everything around her is very stupid. Every time you think you have figured out the plot twists down the line...you actually have. Nothing special here.
It's certainly got enough suspense to it to keep you in the moment, but in retrospect it's too absurd to be played straight like it is. After the first 40 minutes it starts getting annoying, and the twists just keep piling on up to the climax. And seriously, who thought it was a good idea to go back to cold war era politics here?
Not sexy, not edgy, not engaging, but it is one hour and forty minutes long, I know that much. Bourne, Man on Fire, or any of those 'agent in a suit on the run' flicks is probably better, but Salt isn't too bad if you're new to the political, assassination thriller thing. Seems like it really wanted to be R-rated and honestly, it could have helped. A little grounding in realism and excessive gore/nudity only could have helped, here.
It's like watching the Bourne movies with a woman as the lead and a non-shaky cam for the action scenes. It's not great, but it's not awful either. It gets a little twisty towards the end, which would be fine except I preferred the pre-twist plot. The action scenes are pretty cool so it's not too bad in that sense. Plus, it's nice to see a female led action film, as it can be pretty rare. Not really as bad as everyone seems to be saying.
Well, that was rather stupid. It's hard to articulate a great deal about this movie with such a lack of memorable aspects. The story is about 25 years dated, none of the action scenes are interesting, and while the movie intends to be clever by keeping you in the dark, everything's fairly obvious by around the half-hour mark. Utterly forgettable.
Man, this was such a stupid movie. It was riddled with cliches and product-placement, the plot was incredibly formulaic, and Angleie Jolie wasn't even that sexy in it. But it did have Andre Braugher, so I suppose I can't complian that much.
Angelina is hot, and the movie is hot too: Noyce benefits from the Bourne wave of conspiracy films, and made one that is not ashamed of being called preposterous and exaggerated.
Totally weightless. Jolie simply doesn't have the physicality to be Bourne, just as Noyce doesn't have the intelligence to be Paul Greengrass. This movie exists solely to provide a familiarity with the character so they can quickly get into franchise mode with inevitable sequels and make some real money. This one really isn't even trying; we get the whole conspiracy laid preposterously bare immediately, and the allegedly transformative romance glossed over in a couple weak minutes of flashback.
Jolie is good, but "Salt" borrows most of its ideas from other films. Watching the fight sequences is like watching a patchwork quilt of various action moments from a variety of recent action flicks. Where this film really stumbles is in plot & intelligence. Every time a twist comes it's been hinted at long before it finally arrives with some clues as subtle as a kick to the ballsack! Even worse is how implausibly stupid this movie depicts clandestine international relations. Fun, but dumb.
Pleasingly preposterous genre picture that feels like some deliciously paranoid Cold War era Russophobe's fever dream combined with a 90s Harrison Ford thriller, but with Angie in drag substituting for Harrison. Fun and unpretentious with capable performances from Angie, Liev Schreiber and Chiwetel Ejiofor, but Evelyn Salt is not quite the Jason Bourne the people behind this film were obviously hoping for her to be, but not for a lack of talent on Jolie's part, as she makes a great action hero.
