Samaritan Girl

Watching Kim's movies is a bit of a gamble, more than once (but especially with Bad Guy) I've come away disgusted without being sure if that was his intention. But he's never dull and his movies are never not beautiful. Samaritan Girl is him in a more forgiving mood - there's teenage prostitution and honour killings and brains splattering on screen, but somehow it's a low-key family drama with some truly heartwarming moments. Alongside 3-Iron, this is probably the nicest I've seen Kim.

This movie is all kinds of messed up, captivating and interesting, surely will leave you and friends talking about the film for a while afterwards.

Within the first few minutes, it was clear that this movie would go in unexpected directions. It's got such a strange plot progression, that I'm not sure even the director knew what would happen as he went along. Great film.

One of his weaker films.

The story is a hash section into prostitution. Girls who do it have to be smiley and fun, eternal young and interested of men's need fysically and mentally. But the truth behind prostitution is much more sad and despair. The most deepest it cuts into close relatives lives. Everything has cause and consequences.

Quite interesting story and beautiful cinematography laced with Ki-Duk's trademark despair.

As with many of Kim's films, this is difficult to love and get your head around. But when the father story kicks in, it is quite moving and compelling.

The acting was great by everyone involved and the story was simple yet poetic and slightly hypnotic. Ki-duk Kim's movies always seem to center on fringe and uncomfortable topics but they are directed with gentleness and grace.

Starts out wonderfully, but loses direction. Kim Ki-Duk has a lot of things to say, but he makes the mistake of trying to squeeze them all into one film.

Great and pure. Samaria delivers everything you need from a drama. Flawless and really touching, not touching in a sickly sweet way most movies try to be this days.

The third part is fantastic, and leaves a strong impression. I'm still not sure what to make of the first two parts.

Not nearly as interesting as some of his other films. Still very engaging to a point, and then the ending is just underwhelming.

I think this is one of kim ki duk's more underrated films (critically, anyway) It could be seen as "all over the place" but I think it really works.
