Mifune is perfectly cast in this - who else could pull off such humor, action, & presence under that structure of a nose? Maybe its cause this isn't VHS-quality but I enjoyed Inagaki's style more than the previous Samurai Trilogy; the use of color & technique seems more pronounced. It's not a film with much depth but it made for quality enjoyment.

Inagaki flicks are usually made for overseas audience, thus are entertaining at the worst. I like my samurai meal foremost cerebral and twisted, before it gets bloody. S.S. doesn't go philosophical or insightful about the subject, but there is enough footplay to keep me entertained. Plus Mifune is screaming his ass off all over the place. It shouldn't cause any harm watching another Bergerac adaptation. Be warned coloring is poor.
