Its a sad thing that with so few movies about modern adventure/exploration virtually every one follows the same formula: adventurers meet murphy's law and get picked off in gory and exotic accidents. For a film with Cameron's association it all looks cheap and digital, even the sound reeks of akward redubbed lines; you get the feeling that this film was destined for made-for-tv, where it belongs, without the divine intervention of Cameron's titanic influence.

I found Sanctum to be part Cliffhanger, part The Cave/The Descent minus the supernatural element. There really is no story here; it's just a group of cave divers trying to navigate their way out the cave system. There isn't a whole lot of character development, but I really thought the set design and camerawork were excellent. Feels like the runtime is a bit too long.

This movie actually creates tension pretty well, no doubt from the fact that it must completely suck getting stuck underground. However there are some flaws that make it pretty hilarious. Mercy killing seems to be a pre-req for spelunking with this crew and it features a completely out of place voice-over ending. Produced by James Cameron or not, give this one a miss.

The visuals are pretty great, but apart from that, it's fairly poor. The acting and script is diabolocal in places, it relies to heavily on stuntwork and action sequences to create tension and the plot developments were just plain predictable. It's a shame as the premise looked promising.

Whoever is responsible for the casting should be flogged, and flogged hard. What a horrible bunch of actors, I actually cringed when I saw the computer guy talking about his 3d cave mappings. Whoever was allowed not to cut this scene out in the editing room should follow the casting director to get the same punishment. I'll save you the trouble of watching this mess, everybody dies, only the young boy survives. How the hell could Cameron let this piece of shit happen? Unbelievable.

Useless movie. Richard Roxburgh is good but the rest of the cast is horrible, the guy playing his son being the "stand-out". The premise did have potential but you'll want to watch 'The Descent' instead. Photography is good, both the 3D and overall - but that's just not enough.

The fact that this aussie film is produced by James Cameron doesn't mean a thing: Grierson is unable to tell a convincible story, and the characters lack sympathy -- despite their lovely accent. If there is anything good here, it is the 3D: shy but justified by beautiful underwater shots.

The human drama ain't worth much, but man is that cave / underwater photography gorgeous as hell. Makes me wanna strap on an air tank and go diving. This is more along the lines of what I was hoping The Descent would be - not a monster movie, but a movie where the villain is the cave itself.

If You expect another Avatar...well, You'll be disappointed. The plot is worn out by thousand productions made before it. Even if, it's still better than Descent-like movies. Roleplay is average and far from a decent one, but with crew made of not-celebs is quite good. Effect make You feel some of the huge intense atmosphere of big caves and claustrophobic feeling that comes with some passages. 3D is not necessary but brings some spice to it. Enough to watch on a big screen but one of bottoms...

A decent Thriller that mostly takes place underground and underwater where a group of divers & explorers are trying to escape a maze of tunnels. It's fairly intense and you do want to see most of these characters make it out alive and reach the surface! Rhys Wakefield is quite likeable as Josh, but his Father, Frank (Richard Roxburgh) is a bit too blunt for my likings. Overall an impressive film, not James Cameron's best of course but still certainly worth checking out if you're a fan of his.
