Summary: John Travolta stars as a local disco kingpin at the peak of his popularity. Once a week, after six full days of work in a Brooklyn paint store, Tony (Travolta) douses himself with Brut cologne, dons a floral bodyshirt, gabardine pants and platform shoes - and ritualistically prepares himself for "Saturday Night Fever." Through the influence of Stephanie - his more sophisticated dance partner - and Tony's brother - a disillusioned priest - Tony begins to question the way his views life and the narrowness of his perspective. (Paramount Pictures)

Not a great storyline, but an iconic example of the seventies with good music and dance.

What easily could have been a one-note cash-in on the disco phenomenon actually serves as something like a "Rocky" for douchebags, which I actually mean as a compliment. Like many of the great films of the decade, you'd be hard-pressed to call John Travolta's Tony sympathetic, but damn it if there's not just enough shading and depth to make you hope that he can break free from his dead-end, working class existence and numskull buddies. And some of those Bee Gees tunes are great. Yup, I said it.

Better than you remember through that gauze of Disco nostalgia, but also kind of a downer.

The quintessential movie of the 70's; on the shell, a dance movie but the layers come off early as a movie of the hardships of finding your place in life and the trial of growing up and entering adulthood. With strong characters and star performances from Travolta and Gorney, this movie managed to move me much more than I expected because I could relate to it. The dialogue does get a tad bit corny at points but that can easily be overseen; plus, the Bee Gees wrote a killer soundtrack. Bravo.

Just a classic really. I like Travolta and I liked the music, those 70's kids really had it good. The film has aged though and it's hard to compare it to a modern day film.

A movie in many circles considered little more than a period piece happens to stand the test of time quite well. Beyond the gaydy attire and fantastic soundtrack is a compelling movie about people that gets better with each viewing.

Insomnia, hotel, on cable: I was suprised to find that this wasn't nearly as bad as I always thought it would be. In fact, it was a pretty interesting 70's artefact.
