It's odd that this film, which is contemporaneous to Mean Girls, never became a sleeper hit. However, while Mean Girls is bubble gum and focused on personalities, Saved is hard hitting and caustic in its portrayal of religious intolerance; especially towards gays and teenage mothers. It's fun, and has some warped humor that wouldn't be out of place in the movie Election--including a spoiled villain who chucks a Bible at someone. Highly recommended and very overlooked. And a great soundtrack!

I like it. It's trying to be something a little bit different, and it succeeds, and it's got some good one-liners.

A movie about religion that I don't hate? Yes, and it does a great job in advocating religion, but not in a guilt kind of way.

Hilarious, thought-provoking, and sweet. Just like The Book of Mormon, it's less about making fun of a religion and more about pointing out the difference between theoretical and empirical theology (and being disappointed when things don't go as planned).

This feels like it was massively ahead of its time in parodying a Christian film formula that hadn't even worked its magic yet. Saved! as a whole feels too over-the-top to work perfectly, but its ability to weave in satire and dark humor into its message about what faith should act like towards others gives it more impact than it has a right to. I was laughing the entire time, and I'm not sure if it was at or with the film; either way, I found Saved! enjoyable and at least slightly enlightening.

Squeaky clean take on Christian hipocrisy that only tackles easy targets and never itself takes a non-secular stance on the religion. Forgettable at best, smarmy at worst.

Only a handful of the characters feel like they could actually exist in real life. I guess the message is good but it's basically the typical "picked on girl gets revenge on the mean girl" movie with a slightly edgier feel because of the critique of Christianity.

Very funny film up until the final third. Mandy Moore shines in her role. Interesting look at religion. The final third slips into melodrama and tries to tie too many things up when a more open ending would have been more appropriate.

It's a simple little teenage drama/comedy with the standard archetypes (the rebellious chick, the pregnant girl, the bitchy clique-leader), but set in a Christian High School. I expected there to be a lot more subtle digs and blatant potshots at the religious types, but that type of humor is mostly kept on the back burner in favor of presenting a sweet story and a theme of acceptance and tolerance. Not bad, not great, a couple of decent laughs.

Clever film that makes me wonder why Macaulay Culkin's completely disappeared from popular cinema. The man is funny and has been for years, put him in more movies. Oh right: "Saved" is like "Mean Girls" with some Christianity (and all that entails) thrown into the mix. Surprisingly doesn't make any real presumptions about religion but rather focuses more on the flaws of those who preach.

I gave it a more generous rating before, but the more I think about it in contrast to "But I'm a Cheerleader" (4 years prior), the more annoyed I become with this spineless nonsense. This is the #notallchristians / "white lives matter" answer to the far superior film that preceded it. I don't hate Xians, but that's not the point. It handwaves conversion camps. It affiliates atheism with smoking tobacco - but which is it? Tobacco=cool or atheism=bad? Doesn't take a stand either way. Pointless.

Martin Donovan is totally defanged, and its message of Christian acceptance is kinda dull considering how convincingly depressing the first act is. However, loads of cute girls, surprisingly good Culkin, and the use of 'Skyway' more than compensate.

I laughed until I cried while watching this movie. Funny look at "peer pressure" from the holier-than-thou types that seem to abound. At times it's a bit like getting hit in the head with a hammer that says "JESUS, LOL", but overall "Saved!" is charming and its heart is in the right place. Not half as biting as it could have been. They go after a subset of religion that is comparatively easy to attack - that is, the hateful ex-gay camps - but don't seem to address religion itself much. Mandy Moore is a surprise, though.

Not as funny or intelligent as it thinks it is--apparently the only two options are being a judgmental hypocrite or deciding to cast off all authority and make religion in our own image. Neither of these is that difficult to portray, and I would have been much more interested in a portrayal of some kind of middle option between these two. That said, it did have its moments--especially liked Fugit's character and pastor Skip.
