Trapped in the chambers of a terrifying mastermind by the name of "Jigsaw", several victims find themselves walking on needles, killing others, and cutting their own flesh and blood in order to survive and escape the monster. While you don't discover the identity in the first movie of Saw, the movie is so spine-chilling and petrifying that you will actually want to see more. The movie captures the audience's attention and keeps the viewer on their toes by creating such a perplexing mood.

Honestly this movie, and series in general, has some interesting ideas about revenge and forcing people through adversity to realize what is important in life. A highly recommended film, the series is really overplayed though.

An effective enough taster of what was to come – it is interesting that (for better or worse) all of the iconic stylistic elements are present here in the amateur version (including “Jigsaw”’s design) and I would argue Whannel’s performance is more interesting and effective here than in the souped-up redo. Would be less remarkable if it didn’t spin off into its franchise, but on its own terms, a decent attention-getter.
