TV Stanley Kramer-style Big And Important Movie, and one that measures up pretty well to his standard... right down to not skimping on the star power. (Poitier, a thespian I always enjoy seeing at work, is Thurgood Marshall. Reason enough to see it right there.) I worried this would be a dull, starchy history lesson. It isn't. Lots of talk, but how else can you tell a story this intellectual? Plus a nice depiction of how racism was like an omnipresent invisible monster in the 50s U.S. Deep South
