Summary: Writer-director Michael Tully also stars in this quirky tale of broken ties as Cornelius Rawlings, a long-absent son who returns to his dead parents' farm to reunite with his surviving siblings. His brother Ezra (Robert Longstreet) is a Jesus freak, while his brother Amos (Onur Tukel) embraces Satan and sports. Meanwhile, Cornelius is content to call getting alternately drunk and high a form of living. (Netflix)

When Tully first hit the scene with Cocaine Angel he was lumped in with the so-called "mumblecore" trend, it would seem solely because of his film's limited resources and nonprofessional cast. Even then it was obvious that his sensibility had little in common with Andrew Bujalkski, Joe Swanberg, or the Duplass brothers. Here even more clearly it becomes apparent that Tully has far less to do with 20-something angst than with the New Weird Americana of Harmony Korine or early David Gordon Green.

Oddball indie which seems to be about making fun of the idea of the return of the repressed, among other things. The milieu is rural and the script is very gay. The film is often funny -- the final goal-kicking scene cracked me up -- and it's short and doesn't take itself very seriously, both of which I appreciate. Still, intriguing but not really very satisfying.
