The songs are distinctly (and thankfully) forgettable, but the rest of the plot manages to be both fascinating and surprisingly funny. The political machinations are fully brought to life and, while it's not exactly historically accurate, it's an involving story of the birth of a nation.

Really quite tedious. I found myself hanging my head each time the congress took another musical detour. Could have used a good editor.

No one got laid after taking their date to this. Oh my lord, I watched all 2 1/2+ hours of this thing.

Overlong but fairly enjoyable, and memorable in concept, but in concept alone. Every thing else falls under forgettable.

The actor who played Ben Franklin creeped me out a little, and the songs were for the most part forgettable, but this is an okay movie despite all that.

This is a great film! The transition from stage to film actually works for this story. It's well acted, funny, and great history! It's my annual 4th of July movie!:D

As the film started I feared I was about to lose two hours of my life to second rate tunes and a very unlikely theme for a musical ... and guess what. - I was wrong. True the numbers aren't memorable but there is a real sense of history and the human struggle for identity. Benjamin Franklin adds humour and colour. Overall, an under-rated musical and film worth a viewing.

It's a musical about the writing of the Declaration of Independence. What more do you need than that?
