holy shit. Also, this is not better than Hunger, but they are both very similar films, narratively speaking, but Shame loses the race since it hasn't got the grandiosity of events of McQueen's debut. The ending just didn't worked, probably because the sister doesn't have any character personality at all. She's a singer urban suicidal girl alright, but you know, that's not enough. Still great film, though.

This movie has a haunting story that will leave you thinking about it even after you done watching it. The movie has a complicated story, but the acting by both Michael Fassbender and Carey Mulligan is noteworthy. The only thing lacking in the movie is describing what made the characters damaged they way they were portrayed. A very gripping drama.

Any movie that can realistically portray a man with a wiener that size as depressed is pretty much a masterpiece.

Hunger is a very powerful film, so I was both hopeful and sceptical about McQueen's next. When I finally saw Shame I was left with mixed feeling. Story is just not good enough for a feature film. There is not enough substance. That said, I was still glued to the screen solely because of McQueens abilities as auteur. Fassbender gets to do some power-acting and he delivers. It's good to see that Mulligan is becoming a real starlet, singing scene is very enchanting.

It was a fantastic movie about addiction. It doesn't contain that level of exaggerated self-harm that movies about addiction usually show. Fassbender played his act very well, and in total accordance with the whole theme of the movie. McQueen was very wise to hidden the reason behind the sufferings of these two siblings and instead to focus solely on the subject matter, sexual and sensual addiction, in the present time. I really enjoyed this movie. However I doubt that I watch it again soon!

Did not like the cheesiness at the end.
And McQueens apparent need to show as much of (obviously great) performance as possible in really long shots unfortunately often takes away from the dramatic tempo/drama.
Fortunately, though, the ending itself did not follow in the cheese's footsteps. :)

A haunting story of a man who's life has been pushed out of trails. Sex was the way to drown it. Rougher the better. Sex was the drug that led into it, sex was way to handle it. And the result was dirty and devastating. Was Fassbender New York? There was lots of levels of shameness in here. And it's up to viewer does it never end. Fassbender was stunning in lead.

Expected so much more. Way too melodramatic and not as shocking as you would hope considering the material. McQueen is obviously very capable but his material was a bit weak this time. Great performance from Fassbender though. This would've made a better TV show

Steve McQueen is quickly becoming one of the best current directors. I don't think Shame is as good as Hunger was, but they are very similar, long takes with lots of dialogue, long takes without dialogue, Michael Fassbender. Speaking of Michael Fassbender, he gives a great performance. Carey Mulligan on the other hand I thought was good, but not as good as she is in other movies. The film flows really well, and the soundtrack is simple, and works really well with the pace of the movie.

Everything that didn't work in Hunger for me fell right in place here the moment I saw the opening. The portrait of Brandon losing his grip presented by the slow pace and long takes felt incredibly depressing. It feels no need to tell you more the necessary but makes sure that your thoughts on this film won't leave you anytime soon.

Two words: Je. Sus. (I don't think that he'll mind I used his name in vain considering my place in hell was pretty much reserved simply by seeing Fassbender's fass-member so many times). Every scene is so saturated it crushes your soul like the accusatory finger of a pitiless god. If you are a guy and this movie doesn't 'get' to you in some way, you are already dead.

A fantastic movie powerfully directed by Steve McQueen with Fassbender and Mulligan delivering their best, and showing it all. Very deliberately paced and everything rides on the fantastic performance from Fassbender and his interactions with the world around him and especially with Mulligan who is excellent in her own right. A very bleak film combining a very intimate look at pornography addiction and a broken family. A very powerful movie.

Beautifully shot & scored, with really excellent performances, although Carey Mulligan still doesn't convince, & she just seems to be a performer who just doesn't really connect with me. If I'm continuing to be picky, I found myself having little interest in Fassbender's character & if anything I was a little disappointed with how little this film seemed to push any sensibilities. Technically however at times this is marvelous, & with this & 'Hunger', McQueen certainly seems one to watch.

I'll gladly repeat myself: McQueen is the male Sofia Coppola. But able or willing to portray masculine fragility without mercy. Masculinity, and indeed the style itself becomes like Brandons apartment: clean, stylish and pure and just waiting to be sullied and broken.

I wanted to like it more than I actually did. I thought the direction was great & the cinematography was gorgeous yet appropriately dirty. Fassbender was amazing & filled with raw emotion in this. I was also really impressed with Carey Mulligan’s performance. It was very different to anything I’d seen her do before. The film did feel a bit directionless though. It didn’t have much in the way of a cohesive story. I think when the film is good, it’s really good & it outweighs anything negative.

A subtle, understated look at a man's sex addiction and his struggle to really connect with anyone. An intense film, with some great moments of insight in to this character alongside some unexpected humour among all the grimness. I loved the date scene which for me was kind of the centrepiece of the film as Brandon's relationship troubles are gradually revealed to us whilst the camera slowly dollies in towards him.
